History of the Schlosshotel

The story of the Schlosshotel in Brig began in the middle of the 1970s. In place of an old smithy, the legendary “Hammerschmitta”, a consortium planned the building of a residence. The project was put into bankruptcy before work could even begin. In 1974 the well-known local hotelier and ski acrobat Art Furrer bought and had built the Schlosshotel Garni, which opened in 1976.

Hotel’s central position in Brig

The position of the hotel with views over the imposing and antique Stockalperpalace with its public gardens could not have been better chosen and is today seen as one of the most idyllic places in Brig and surroundings. The Schlosshotel would be successfully run for several decades. Art Furrer’s eldest son Andreas Furrer took over the running of the Schlosshotel with his wife Gabriela in the 1990s.

In the years from 2003 until 2015 the Rainer Zimmermann family successfully ran the Schlosshotel on his own account and gave the hotel his personal character. Andreas Furrer, the boss of “CultVenture…all about emotions” and CEO of the Art Furrer Hotels, bought the hotel in Autumn 2014 and from November 1 2015 again took over the management.
